Half Baked: The Story of My Nerves, My Newborn, and How We Both Learned to Breathe, by Alexa Stevenson

Maybe you, like me, were a longtime rabid fan of Alexa‘s (sadly no longer) blog, Flotsam. Maybe you just like really wonderful books that make you feel things. Either way, I really think you need this book.

THE BUZZ:

I’ve been trying to think of the criteria by which I plan to recommend books, since there are SO MANY BOOKS to recommend, but I think any book which I have found myself returning to over and over and over throughout the years deserves a place here. Half Baked is a book I bought right after it came out (maybe 10 years ago?), because I was a huge fangirl of Alexa. I expected it to be good, because all of her writing was so good, but I did not expect it to be THIS good. I have found that being a great blogger doesn’t mean you’re going to be a good book writer, but Alexa writes like she’s been a bestselling author for years. It’s just … it’s so good, you guys. It’s like she ripped out her heart and put it in the pages, and while the subject matter is pretty serious (premature birth, loss, a lot of crippling anxiety), there is so much humor in this memoir. I have re-read it so many times it’s a wonder the binding still holds.

Please, do yourself a favor and get a copy for yourself. I’m linking the Amazon listing, which seems to be offering some good deals on used paperbacks if you don’t want the Kindle version. It’s on Indie Bound as well, although not currently available.

  • Adding bullet text for this book seems pretty cheesy
  • Like, how can I boil it down?
  • IT’S A DAMN GOOD BOOK
  • Read the description, and check out all those great ratings
